As part of NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Careers in Construction Month, this week has been dedicated solely to the Young Professionals in Construction. The Timber Block team is always expanding and is very pleased to honor some of the talented young professionals we are fortunate to work with.
Today, we are featuring Parker Shelton. He is a Home Consultant from our Connelly Springs, North Carolina location, Here is a bit about Parker!
Parker, tell us a little bit about your background and why you chose to work in the construction industry.
“I grew up in West Jefferson, NC, which is in Ashe County. I attended Appalachian State University, where I majored in public relations and minored in marketing. Growing up, my family moved and remodeled houses a handful of times, so I really got a firsthand look into the real estate/construction business and how it’s worked throughout the years. I’ve always been interested in architecture, different housing styles, interior design, and all other facets of construction. I like working with people to help them achieve what they want, so this industry is perfect!”
What is your role at Timber Block, and what is your favorite part of your job?
“Here at Timber Block, I’m a home consultant. I assist clients in finding the best home that could work for them. My favorite part of my job is being able to assist and see the happiness that clients get when they’re planning and building their dream homes.”
What advice would you give young people considering working in this industry?
“I am still fairly new to my role here at Timber Block, and the industry as a whole. But, from what I’ve learned so far is that it’s extremely imperative to be detail-oriented. Keeping all your ducks in a row on a consistent basis is a must.”
